Tottenham Court Road Station Upgrade
Rorcon were chosen in an open tender process to provide Vinci Bam Nuttall (VBN) with underground expertise for the major station upgrade at Tottenham Court Road in central London.
The project aimed to enlarge the station ticket hall, providing three new entrances with increased capacity, and installing additional escalators and new lifts for step-free access to all platforms. Furthermore, it included construction of the structural shell and core for the facilities required to integrate the new Elizabeth line station with the London Underground network. The project was completed in 2016 with great success.
Over 95 percent of the material from the buildings being taken down was recycled, including glass, metal, and masonry.
The masonry was broken up and used as building material on-site, resulting in major environmental benefits, including dramatically reducing waste sent to landfill and the number of HGVs taking material away.
During the project, a significant focus was given to reducing waste and carbon footprint.
Rorcon's contribution to this project included providing underground expertise, helping with the construction of tunnels and shafts and the installation of critical infrastructure.
