Drainage realignment for residential development - Cambridge

Rorcon developed a method that kept the other works on track while the diversion progressed in the background.

The team constructed a reinforced pit extension to create a stable and safe working platform, then advanced a hand-mined timber heading designed to maintain ground support throughout. The new pipe run was installed, reconnected and pressure tested to confirm full integrity before the existing line was switched over.

All excavation and reinstatement were carried out under tight control, with specialist personnel and procedures to protect nearby structures and maintain the required levels. The sequencing allowed the client to continue other construction uninterrupted while the drainage realignment was delivered to specification.

This project demonstrates Rorcon’s capability to handle drainage diversions in complex environments where accuracy, safety and control of ground movement are critical. It also shows our ability to integrate with a wider project team and deliver dependable results inside tight programme windows.

The works were delivered safely, ahead of the client’s required dates and within the agreed budget. The new drainage line provides long-term stability for the development and removes any risk associated with the original pipe position beneath the extended building. The client received a fully compliant installation with no change orders, no unplanned downtime, and zero defects on completion.

This project further highlights Rorcon's expertise in delivering intricate tunnelling projects, and their commitment to providing quality services to their clients.
