Gloucester Flood Alleviation
Rorcon collaborated with Morgan Sindall, a leading UK construction and regeneration group, on a flood alleviation project for Severn Trent Water.
The project aimed to improve the region's drainage infrastructure and required the installation of several new 1.5m internal diameter (ID) storm sewers.
To achieve this, Rorcon employed pipe-jacking techniques, a trenchless method of installing pipes or culverts beneath the ground without disturbing the surface. This technique involves the use of a hydraulic jacking frame that drives steel pipes through the ground while a cutting head at the front excavates the soil. The excavated material is then removed through the pipe using a conveyor belt or pump, and the pipe is jacked in place as the excavation progresses.
Rorcon's team of experienced professionals successfully installed the new storm sewers using pipe-jacking techniques, which minimized the disruption to the surrounding area and reduced the time required for the project.
The team ensured that the works were carried out to the highest standards of safety and quality, in line with the requirements of the project.
The successful completion of this project highlights Rorcon's expertise in pipe-jacking and trenchless technology, which is becoming an increasingly popular method for installing pipelines, especially in urban areas with limited access.
